The OG Story
During my 20 year career as a firefighter, I have always wanted to find the best gear to work with whether it be tools, turnout gear, gloves, or equipment. I could never find a firefighting or extrication glove that I was really satisfied with. I would always say to myself, man I wish I could design a glove. After wrestling with doubt and where would I even start, a nagging voice continued to tell me that it can be done. So I set out on a journey to design an extrication glove. During this process the doors of opportunity were opened and closed. Feeling defeated and discouraged I prayed about it. A few months later with the help of good friends I made contact with the right people. What started as a want to design and make extrication gloves turned into, I want to design and make a really good structural glove as well. The wheels were set in motion and the two year journey was in high gear and can you believe I hadn’t named the company or gloves yet!
I had what I thought was a good catchy name for the gloves so I called on my trusted friend and brother in Christ to get his perspective. He gave me the best advice that no one wants to hear “Jason I don’t think thats a good idea and here is why”. So back to the drawing board.
After days of trying to figure this name out, all I could think of was my good friends in Spartanburg County South Carolina. They affectionately call me Big Daddy and would always say that I was an “OG”.
So I researched OG and found many companies using OG this and OG that and it hit me, OG Protection that’s the name. For those that know me I wrestled with the choice thinking it was silly or people wouldn’t like it but I stuck with it. Once everything was formed and legal, I began to do research into the company name. During my research late at night lying in bed the words Only God jumped off of the screen. The reason doors opened and closed was to put me where He wanted me. God placed the right people in my life to steer this idea in the direction for His glory. He used my good friend to give me the advice to seek a different name and used my other friends for the idea of OG. Yes, we can consider ourselves the Original Gangsters or members of the Old Guard and there is nothing wrong with it but, Only Gods Protection will see us through that hot dark hallway to protect our fellow citizens.
So here we are on this journey that has been fun while challenging. I hope you decide to come along with us and use these products that we are proud of and most of all thank you for believing in us.
